HOW TO ADVANCE YOUR POSITION
AND INCOME WITHIN YOUR COMPANY

     Consider taking evening classes to help improve your skills. Talk to your employer and see if the company will pay for your additional education. Show your interest by being willing to learn. However, when you take this extra initiative, don't expect a sudden promotion by setting your own target dates. You will be setting yourself up for failure. The company plans may not include a promotion for you just yet. You need to have long-range goals and stick with your plan. Also, show interest in the company by asking your boss about their work and responsibilities. Seek their advice. Let them know you are alert and wanting to learn. You will stand out from the crowd because many employees today could "care less". This will give you the edge.

     Show initiative by coming in a little early and avoid leaving exactly on time unless your company requires that you leave at a certain time. Be sincere and show interest in others. Make sure your co-workers like you because you care about them. Be a real person and avoid being pretentious. People are not stupid. They can tell sincerity from pretence over a period of time. Learn to care about the company, even when you do not agree with everything. Grow personally in honesty, integrity, truthfulness and willingness to learn and your financial future can grow with you. If you are totally unhappy, make a decision for a career change. Don't work all your life as an unhappy employee. Change your attitude or move on with your career. You do not have to work where you are, but give your current job a chance first.

     Earl Nightingale once said, "Employees who do not do drugs have a tremendous opportunity to go to the top of a company". Drug dependence indicates there is a void in your life. For some reason you are not really happy or you may have a lot of bad experiences from childhood that are stored in your sub-conscientious mind. Stored data from your past or an unhappy relationship may cause you to try to escape the realities of life by taking drugs. Those taking drugs can justify their habit all they want, but a drug habit destroys people's lives and the lives of their loved ones. Anyone addicted to drugs will suffer the consequences until they change. Those who take drugs certainly cannot expect to advance in their company.

     Aside from drugs, a bad attitude can destroy your future with your company. Sometimes the company executives make bad decisions or do things that are not in your best interest, but that is the way it is. Human beings act "human" more often than not. We can all be self-centered and often selfish. We are all human and make mistakes. However, you as an employee do have the authority to change the way things are for you. You must rise above it. You must set your goals to learn, contribute and grow. You must live your life with integrity in spite of the people around you. The writers own personal experience proves that you have to rise about it. As an officer of a $20 billion dollar company, I had three out of five less than efficient "bosses" in just five years. I chose not to let it bother me and took it as a challenge to succeed anyway. I looked for the good in my circumstances and realized there were also a lot of good people ahead of me in the company. You can rise above any obstacle if your attitude is an attitude that says, "I will be a success by doing the right things".
